"A steep climb to the top of Avalanche Peak. The book says a round trip of 7 hours but 5 is more likely, and that is with plenty of stops to regain your breath and take in the unfolding scenery. The best route is the suggested Avalanche Peak track, returning to the bottom via Scotts track.
The views from the top on a clear day (why go up if it is not), are stunning. If you are lucky you will see the train running along the Midland Line. Also, you may be have a visit by one or more of the local Kea birds to keep you company while you take in the views."
