I am more a distance runner then a tramper at present. I generally only tramp for a few weeks in Jan and Feb. I love the challenge of tramping perhaps more then I enjoy the traditional appeal of scenery and wildlife. If I'm not running the trail I am pushing hard with a heavy load usually in an attempt to cram a 10 day tramp into 5 long days.
In 2005 I won TV3's reality TV show "The Summit". It was my familiarity with the outdoors and experience as a tramper that gave me the edge on my competition.

Sandy Bay Hut
Great Walks Hut (DOC). Capacity: 18.
An excellent hut nestled on the edge of Lake Waikareiti. A perfect alternative if you can't find space on the busy Waikaremoana cicuit. This hut must be booked in advance with DOC.

Manuoha Hut
Standard Hut (DOC). Capacity: 6.
A small basic hut more commonly frequented by hunters then trampers. Situated 5 minutes past the trig. It has 6 bunks, a water tank and a small wood stove for heating (not suitable for cooking - carry your own stove)

Te Rereatukahia
Standard Hut (DOC). Capacity: 12.
A fairly standard hut showing it's years high up in the Kaimai Mamaku's. A fairly decent view to the South West over the Hauraki Plains.
