August 2009 and lots of ice on the track. We were able to widen it a little with snowshoes and if it wasn't for the crampon feature it would have been potentially lethal.

A good place to walk and generally find no-one are the hills around Queenstown. With the exclusion of Ben Lommond.

This peninsula shelters Bob's Cove on Lake Wakatipu. A track runs along the foreshore here, exploring the lime kiln and hut ruins. Eucalyptus trees planted by settlers still stand.
