Wainui Hut
Older 4 bunk basic hut about 1hr 15 mins from Canaan Downs carpark. Located in a nice little clearing, Open fire. Being so close to carpark tends to get a few groups heading in for the night !

glennj That is a good photo DeanC that seems to capture the essence of the place. We found the Wainui valley to be very pleasant. Moss covered ground under tall silver beech forest, big terraces & easy slopes. We saw signs of historic prospecting for gold including some quite extensive workings downstream of the hut.
I'll add Wainui hut & surrounds to the long list of places to revisit & have a better look around.
