  • russram The Cass / Lagon track is always a good learning trip about 6hrs in from Cass and 6hrs out to Bealey alyear roud as long as you don,t mind wetboots the Hamilton hut is a huge beautiful hut that is rarely 1/2full i have soloed the track maybe 10time over the past 30yrs and still i enjoy it. But joining a club does give security and people to teach you now go enjoy Russram

  • lewshaw lewshaw If you live near ChCh,you`re spoiled for choice. As a beginner,I would maybe engage with a club, certainly initially,to get to know the ropes & buddy up with some like-minded.The Mt Somers Walkway,1.5 hrs drive,is good. Two huts & a shelter, you can approach from either end.I`d cruise in from Coalminers Flat & walk 2-3 hours in to WoolshedCreek Hut.Tramping,I believe,is all about challenging yourself & getting to know your own capabilities, without getting a ride in a red & yellow chopper.Once you do a weekend or two, you`ll meet other trampers, who you can team up with or gather tips from.
