Tauranga to Matakana Island
A 5km walk that can be done during a spring tide when timing favourable, leave and hour before low, short stay on island (about 30min) and return. Leave from Matahui Rd, Tauranga where there is a car park for about 5 cars. The first 50 or so metres is sticky oozy stinky mud, best tackled bare foot! The rest is better with shoes as there is the odd sharp shell. Please watch the tides carefully, apparently it is usually only a couple of metres high when fully in, but as always be ultra careful near water.
