This pic was taken about 10 minutes above Johnson hut on the lower reaches of the Johnson River. The prominent peak is Mt Fugel(1374m) with Mt Johnson(1323m) behind and to the left.

The picture shows easy walking small boulder & gravel beaches next to the river. As you progress upstream the going quickly changes to larger rocks and the beaches disappear. Travel becomes quicker in the bush than on the river bed in most places.
