Camp Creek hut
This hut is located 3kms up the Camp Creek access track to the Alexander/Kaimata Range tops. A sign at the old tent camp site indicates a two minute side track walk to the hut. Camp Creek hut is very well appointed having been built to house possum & vegetation researchers & is not your normal NZFS or DOC style hut. The track as far as the hut has had a trim earlier this year.
The usual access is from the Lake Brunner Road, Poerua. At the TR of the Camp Creek bridge take the sign posted vehicle track 0.5km upstream to a parking area where the well marked track starts. Camp Creek hut can also be approached from the tops. The marked track carries on past the hut turnoff up to the crest of the range. This track is used to access Mt Alexander (1958m) & parts of the Taramakau & Crooked catchments via the Kaimata Range.
