Mt. Luna via the stone track
Stone hut is a days march in from the Rolling river, taking the main Wangapeka track.From Stone hut ford the river and pick up marked track that climbs through forest on true left of Stone creek.Cross to true right after 1 kilometre and continue to bush edge (great campsites there).Climb tussock slopes to Mt. Luna southern ridge and scramble to the summit.Great views of Karamea and Wangapeka valleys, and of Mt Kendall and Mt Patriarch.There is an unmarked route to Kiwi saddle beneath point 1578 south of Mt. Luna, then follows the ridge heading east to the saddle.This climb and traverse to Kiwi saddle, should only be done in good weather.
